Inarticulate Speech of the Heart
Asylum Hill Congregational Church
“Conversations in Cloth” by Annelieke Schauer
Opening September 17, 2010
Asylum Avenue, Hartford, CT
In my compositions I take what I’ve experienced and make a picture of what it was that moved me most. Many times it is language that catches my attention. So I’m making a picture of what the language conveys to me and or what it was written about. Sometimes events demand a picture, but even then, language about what happened informs the piece. The poetry of Mary Oliver, the lyrics of Van Morrison, words by Oscar Wilde, Native American blessings; there are so many beautiful ways to get close to but fortunately not completely describe the ineffable, and so my work has a backstory in extraordinary language. Recently I’ve been exploring different ways to understand the word ‘nomad’.
Please inquire about new work and orders.
